External visual perturbation impacts muscle activation while walking on incline treadmill

چکیده
• Visual perturbation increased muscle activation while walking on incline treadmill. Steeper treadmill elicited more lower extremity activation. Females had pronounced responses to visual than males. Virtual reality could be a promising paradigm for astronauts' training.

Predicting the metabolic cost of incline walking from muscle activity and walking mechanics.
The goal of this study was to identify which muscle activation patterns and gait features best predict the metabolic cost of inclined walking. We measured muscle activation patterns, joint kinematics and kinetics, and metabolic cost in sixteen subjects during treadmill walking at inclines of 0%, 5%, and 10%. Multivariate regression models were developed to predict the net metabolic cost from se...
متن کاملInvestigation of Muscle Synergies Using Four Different Methods of Synergy Extraction While Running on a Treadmill in Beginner Runners
Introduction: The study of muscle synergy is a new way to evaluate the functioning of the human body's control system. Different mathematical methods are used to extract muscle synergies from electromyographic data, and this factor can cause different outputs in muscle synergies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate muscle synergies using four different synergy extraction methods...

متن کاملMuscle activation patterns are bilaterally linked during split-belt treadmill walking in humans.
There is growing evidence that human locomotion is controlled by flexibly combining a set of basic muscle activity patterns. To explore how these patterns are modified to cope with environmental constraints, 10 healthy young adults 1st walked on a split-belt treadmill at symmetric speeds of 4 and 6 km/h for 2 min. An asymmetric condition was then performed for 10 min in which treadmill speeds f...
متن کاملEffect of handrail use while performing treadmill walking on the gait of stroke patients
[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate how the use of handrails during treadmill walking affects the gait parameters of stroke patients. [Subjects and Methods] The participants, 30 hemiplegic stroke patients, were randomly allocated to one of three groups: the NHG group (No Handrail group, n=10), the FHG group (Front handrail group, n=10), and BHG group (Bilateral Handrail group...
